2. How is The Children For Peace different and what can we do to help these efforts?
The Children for peace ONLUS is different in that we do not have paid staff and we personally visit the areas where we have our projects. We have volunteers dedicated to forwarding our work and they do it with passion. Through our efforts, we have expanded over the years and this allows us to expand our work into new areas. The hieracrchy of the charity are women and this also makes us stand out among all the charities - headed by women and run by women.
3. I admire you and Lamia Khashoggi for your efforts all around the world, what are your goals with The Children For Peace?
We must increase our annual funds so we can ensure current programs continue and we have more areas where we would like to institute our programs. Private donors are important to us and we need more. We want to see that every child is educated. It truly is the best investment one can make because the return on the investment is immeasurable.
4. Can we expect any events this year?
We have our annual gala in Rome on 30 November 2013 and our Paris gala on 21 January 2014. We will Join the Global Gift Gala again with Eva Longoria in Marbella, Spain, next summer. We also hope to have an event during the Cannes Film Festival again in 2014. We have been asked to come to Istanbul with an event so we are looking into that possibility. We have been asked to be the charity profiled at the Angel Film Festival in Monaco in December. We were profiled there last year and this film festival is internationally recognized and well publicized because it is the only film festival in the world for non-violent films. We attended last year as the profiled charity and it was an insightful and rewarding experience.
5. I know that 100% of funds go directly to saving these children, tell us exactly how donations are used?
The donations we receive are used for child care which includes nutritional food, any needed medical care and education. We do not fund anything that does not include education for the children. When I travel to the areas where we work, I also thoroughly check into the progress of the children in their schooling. It is intolerable to have children uneducated and our primary focus is providing the educational path for each child. We invest in education. The returns are immeasurable.
Interview with Debra Mace and Lamia Khashoggi
Debra Mace and Lamia Khashoggi are two dynamic women who passionately give back with their Children For Peace foundation.
See how they are making a difference helping one child at a time.
1. Debra your efforts to help children in depressed areas of the world, such as Ethiopia, Mali and Palestine is tireless and all consuming. You travel personally to these areas and touch these children firsthand. Tell us about that?
We feel it is very important to follow-up on programs and projects that we fund. Our funding comes from private donors and fundraising events so it is of the utmost importance to us to ensure the funds are being put to use as intended. Traveling to the countries where have programs and projects is heart-wrenching as well as heart-warming. I love to see the smiles on the faces of the children and knowing they are being educated and assisted in ways that improve their chances to change the conditions in which they currently live for themselves and their future families is what makes the hard work worthwhile.
